The Saw Mill River Parkway reopened northbound in Bedford Hills early Thursday night following an investigation of more than six hours following a fatal, single-vehicle crash that occurred before noon.

Earlier report:

Westchester County Police are still investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Bedford Hills.

Both northbound lanes near the Bedford-Mount Kisco border remain closed at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17 and are expected to remain so through the evening commute.

The crash occurred when a vehicle left the road and struck a tree about 11:25 a.m. Thursday, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the department.

The driver, the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Northbound traffic is still currently being diverted off the parkway at Kisco Avenue. The northbound Green lane entrance ramp is also closed. The parkway remains open north of those two interchanges.

Southbound traffic is not affected. Motorists planning to travel north in the impacted area are advised to take an alternate route.
